Everything this site stores on your device, listed by name, with what each one is for and how long it lasts. There is not much, and none of it follows you anywhere.

In short

  • No trackers. No Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no tag manager, no session replay. Nothing here follows you to another site.
  • Almost everything is your basket and your sign-in — stored in your own browser so the site works at all.
  • One thing is not strictly necessary: a random number, gs_view_sid, that lets us count how many people looked at a dish.
  • There is no consent banner yet, and that identifier needs one. We are either putting one in or removing the identifier. Section 5 says so plainly.
  • Raw view records are deleted after 90 days, leaving anonymous totals.
  • Clearing your site data removes all of it — at the cost of your basket and being signed in.

This summary is a courtesy, not the document. Where the two differ, the numbered sections below govern.

  • 1.What this notice covers

“Cookies” is shorthand. The rules that matter — the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations — cover anything stored on, or read from, your device: cookies, but also local storage and session storage, which is where most of what this site keeps actually lives.

So this page lists all of it, not just the things technically called cookies. It covers getscran.com and the ordering site of any shop that runs on GetScran.

Everything on this page is first-party. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no tag manager, no session-replay tool and no third-party tracker anywhere on these sites. Nothing here follows you to another website.

2.Strictly necessary — the things without which the site cannot work

These do not need your consent, because the site cannot deliver what you asked for without them: a basket that remembers what is in it, a sign-in that stays signed in, an age check that does not ask twice.

    Cookies

    Strictly necessary cookies
    NameWhat it doesHow long
gs-branchRemembers which branch of a multi-shop or franchise site you are ordering from, so the menu, prices and opening hours are the right onesUp to a year
gs-fulfilment-chosenRecords that you have already chosen delivery, collection or table service, so the site stops askingUntil you close the browser
gs-host-override, gs-preview, gs-preview-gate, gs-preview-token, gs-site-previewOnly set for shop staff previewing an unpublished site. A customer never gets theseShort-lived

Stored in your browser (local and session storage)

    Strictly necessary browser storage
    NameWhat it doesHow long
scran-basketYour basket — the items, options and quantities you pickedUntil you order or clear it
scran-customer-tokenKeeps you signed in. It is the key to your account, so it lives only in your browserUntil you sign out
scran-guest-ordersIf you ordered as a guest, lets you track that order without an accountUntil you clear it
scran-allergen-prefsA local copy of your saved allergens so warnings appear instantly, before the page has finished loadingUntil you clear it
scran-age-gate-guest-birthday, scran-age-gate-guest-birth-yearYour answer to the age check, if you ordered a restricted item without an accountUntil you clear it
scran-age-gate-dismissedRecords that you were asked the age question this visit and skipped itUntil you close the tab

scran:recent-searches:… keeps your last few searches, per shop, so the search box can offer them again. It never leaves your browser. Clearing your browser data removes it.

    3.Counting page and product views

We count how often a page or a menu item is looked at, so a shop can see which dishes people are actually interested in. There is one identifier behind that:

    Analytics storage
    NameWhat it doesHow long
gs_view_sidA random number generated in your browser, with nothing in it that identifies you, used to tell one visitor’s views apart from another’sUntil you clear your browser data

It is not linked to your name or your account, it is not shared with anybody, and the raw view records are deleted after 90 days — only anonymous daily totals survive after that.

It is still, in law, storage on your device that is not strictly necessary. See section 5.

4.What we deliberately do not do

    • No advertising or retargeting cookies. Nothing follows you off this site.
    • No Google Analytics, no tag manager, no Facebook or TikTok pixel.
    • No session-replay or heatmap tool recording what you do on the page.
    • No fingerprinting, and no cross-site tracking.
    • No cookie is used to build a profile of you or to decide what you are shown.

Some pages embed a map (Google Maps) to show a shop or a delivery address. Loading a map involves Google and is subject to their terms; we only load one where a map is actually shown.

5.Where we are not yet where we should be

We would rather tell you than have you find out. As things stand today:

    • There is no cookie consent banner on this site. Everything in section 2 is strictly necessary and does not need one — but the view counter in section 3 does, and we are currently setting it without asking. That is a gap under PECR regulation 6 and we are not going to describe it as anything else.
    • We are fixing it, in one of two ways: either the view counter gets a proper consent control that it obeys, or we drop gs_view_sid entirely and count views without any identifier at all. The second is the more likely, because it is what the counting is actually for.
    • Until then, clearing your site data removes it, blocking storage for this site prevents it, and any browser’s private mode makes it last only as long as the window. None of that breaks ordering.

An earlier version of our privacy notice described a cookie banner and a footer control that did not exist. That was wrong, it has been corrected, and this section is the correction.

6.How to control what is stored

    • Clear it: your browser’s “clear site data” or “clear cookies and site data” removes everything on this page for this site. Your basket and your sign-in go with it, so you will start fresh.
    • Block it: every browser can block storage for a specific site. If you block it here, the basket and sign-in will not work — that is what “strictly necessary” means in practice.
    • Private browsing keeps everything only for the life of the window.
    • Your account:Account → Marketing & privacy controls messages and lets you download or delete your data. It does not control browser storage — only your browser can do that.

Questions, or you would like the view counter switched off for you specifically: privacy@getscran.com.

    7.Changes to this notice

This page is kept in step with the code — a cookie or storage key added to the site is added here in the same change. The “Last updated” date at the top says when that last happened.

    Questions?

Anything on this page — including a request to see, correct or delete your data — goes to privacy@getscran.com. For anything about an order, support@getscran.com reaches a real person, and the shop you ordered from can usually sort it fastest.

Unhappy with how we handled it? You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first, but you never have to.

    The rest of the set

    • Privacy noticeWhat we collect, why, who else sees it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it under UK GDPR.
    • Terms of useThe rules for ordering — prices, payment, refunds, allergens, age-restricted items and who your contract is actually with.
    • Delete your dataHow to delete your account and the personal data attached to it, what survives for tax, and how long it takes.
